This Sunday (15. june 2025) at 6:00 PM, a large demonstration will take place in Palma, starting at Plaça d’Espanya and continuing peacefully through the city.
The protest is being organized by local groups concerned about the long-term effects of mass tourism — especially on housing, infrastructure, and everyday life for residents. Importantly, this is not a protest against tourists, but a call for a more balanced and sustainable tourism model.

Why I’m sharing this with you
As a moderator here at Palmallorca, I feel it’s important that we all understand what’s happening — without judgment or drama. I’ve lived on this island long enough to know how much we all care about Mallorca, whether we live here permanently or visit for a few weeks each year.
“Locals are not trying to stop tourism —
they’re trying to hold on to a good life, while asking for a fairer balance.”
Tourism is — and will remain — Mallorca’s most important source of income. But many residents are raising their voices because they feel squeezed out of the housing market, overwhelmed by infrastructure pressure, and left out of key decisions. These demonstrations are, at their core, a way to be heard.
⸻
If you’re in Palma on Sunday
The demonstration route runs through central streets like Sant Miquel, Plaça Major, Cort, and Born. Expect traffic and larger crowds between 18:00 and 20:00. If you’re not joining the protest, it’s a good idea to avoid the area during that time.

Let’s stay curious and respectful
At Palmallorca, we don’t do politics — but we believe understanding leads to better conversations, and better conversations lead to better solutions. That starts with simply listening to each other.
If this sparks something in you — agreement, disagreement, or reflection — I invite you to share your thoughts with us.
