Description

This work by Barcelona-based artist Inez Valls Fortuny operates at the intersection of painting, material, and inner landscape. Deep black surfaces meet oxidized reds and rust tones, scattered with fine, metallic-looking particles. The surface appears aged, dense, and almost geological.
Valls Fortuny does not work illustratively. Her paintings emerge through layering, friction, and a controlled engagement with chance. The result evokes cosmic spaces, mineral formations, and emotional states — without ever resolving into a fixed narrative.
The pronounced materiality gives the work a strong physical presence. Depending on the light and viewing distance, the perception shifts: up close, texture and surface dominate; from afar, the composition reads as calm, expansive, and almost planetary.
This is not a decorative object. It is a statement piece, intended for collectors and spaces that value depth, tension, and character — and for viewers willing to engage with a quiet but intense visual language.
