Christina Østrem: From Guide to Hotel Director
Christina Østrem’s journey to becoming the director of a boutique hotel in Palma was unexpected. Growing up in Jægersborg (Gentofte) and studying in Kolding, she initially came to Mallorca in the early nineties as a guide for Ving Rejser. During her time in the tourism industry, she met the Swedish couple Johanna and Mikael Landström, who in 1996 purchased the Portixol buildings, previously home to a famous fish restaurant.
After extensive renovations, the hotel welcomed guests in June 1999. Christina started at the reception and later became the hotel director, a position she still holds today. Hotel Portixol in Palma pioneered employee-friendly policies in Mallorca, focusing on team unity and individual well-being. Staff parties on  the yacht Falcao Uno and trips to  Hotel Valluga in the Austrian Alps exemplify this positive culture, which guests can feel throughout their stay.
